Drawing more terrestrial inspiration from Russia. Tied using materials within easy reach; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #8
thread - UTC 140 cream/Danville 6/0 brown
body - Ice Dub golden brown
shellback - 2mm foam tan
legs/wing - deer hair
head - dubbing brown
skullcap - 1mm foam brown

Part 1

mash barb/start thread at 3/4 mark; wrap to bend

stretch end of foam (gap width), cut to taper; brush shank with Super Glue, tie in

dub thread/dub body to 3/4 mark

pull foam forward; tie down/trim, cover with thread

Part 2

clean, stack, measure (tips to bend) a clump of deer hair; trim butts, tie in, allowing deer hair to circle body (if it doesn’t do the full 360, add some more where necessary)

thread swap (optional but cuts down on buildup)

tie in foam strip (gap width) over eye

dub head back to 3/4 mark

pull foam to rear; tie down

whip finish, SHHAN, trim foam
