Peacock Ice Dub Nympth

I love peacock herl, but it’s so fragile and difficult to work with at times. I came across this material called Ice Dub, in Peacock color. I played around with it and this is what I came up with. It is tied similar to a Pheasant Tail Nympth.

Hook: Cabelas Model 40 #10
Thread: Rust=Brown Uni-Thread 6/0
Tail: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Abdomen: Peacok Ice Dub, dubbed
Rib: Fine Gold Wire
Thorax: Peacock Ice Dub, in a dubbing loop
Wing Case: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Legs/Gills: Pheasant Tail Fibers

I think this is going to be dynamite! I’ll give it a try this afternoon.

Hi,

That looks like it should do well. Let us know how it goes!

My favorite dubbing…

Brings up the question…Can you ever get too much flash?

Mine too.

Yeah, I’m a flash fanatic (dare I say, addict). So, I guess I would answer – no.

I’ll second Ducksterman’s and Z-fishers opinion on Ice Dubbing and give it 8 Thumbs Up. I love the stuff and use it by the bag full for many of my flies particularly bass and brim flies. I also like and use a lot of Master Brite dubbing. Both are great materials. 8T

Did you fish that fly yet? I’m curious as to how the fish liked it. I like that ice dubbing too.

I fished it on the Ocoee River, near the Nancy Ward Gravesite/US 411 Bridge yesterday afternoon. I couldn’t catch any trout because the shellcrackers wouldn’t leave it alone. I caught about 2 dozen mixed panfish, including 3 rock bass that streaked almost 20’ to bite the darn thing. I also caught 2 smallish SM bass, and one Appalachian Darter (they are a protected species, so it was released unharmed). I kept the panfish for supper and let the others go. This was all in a space of around 2 hours.

I can’t say how this pattern will perform on trout, yet. I’ll try the Conasauga River this weekend, or maybe Jack’s River Falls. They don’t have as big of a sunfish population.

I’ll say this about the nympth…it looks REAL good in the water.

Gigmaster, Nice looking bug. I used your recipe last night and tyed 6 of them. 2 #10 2 #12 and 2 #14. I’ll try them out this weekend and let you know how they work for me. Jim

Wow, that looks alot closer to real peacock than many of the more bluish colors that go by the name ‘peacock’…I might have to track some of that stuff down…

I’ve used lime green ice dub for murky water caddis larvae with good results.

If you do “track some down” …be aware there is …peacock…and black peacock…

i read an article about easier prince nymph ties using this type dubbing a couple years back. the stuff is easy to work with , and looks good, the only draw back i can see is that is doesnt breath like peacock herl.

the batch I have is very dry w/ many shortish fibers. I like it to hide the whip finish on beadhead princes zugs etc…
