patterns for the Shoshone in July?

Any body have any idea what dry fly patterns are good for the North Fork of the Shoshone ion July? I have a family reunion happening then and I want to make some flies for my brothers and sisters. Thanks!

Oh you will love that area. Bring extra film or your laptop if you have a digital. You’ll fill up your memory card.

Is that were your ancestors settled? (Reunions always grab my attention. Sorry, it’s the researcher in me. )

This isn’t very specific because it’s been over a decade since we passed through that area and spent couple of nights, but we did well with the dry flies. We fished late in the afternoon and evening because we were busy doing middle-of-the-day things with historic places.

July is good for some stoneflies, mayflies, emergers, streamers, and midges. Dry flies are decent, and I heard that beaded nymphs are all right as well. (That report is about 4 years old.)

My folks moved out to Cody soon after they were married. They spent 5 years there and had 3 kids, unfortunately not me. This is one of the reasons why we are having a reunion out there. But we had friends that lived out there and I used to spend summers with them. I learned to “fly fish” out there. I use quotations because I found out 20 or so years later that I didn’t have the faintest idea what I was doing. In fact I did everything exactly backwards. Still I did manage to not only catch some nice fish but develope a love for fly fishing. I can’t wait. It has been 12 years since I’ve been out in the Wyoming area.

Oh and I was very rude in not saying thanks for your insight and suggestions. I just get excited when I think of Wyoming…

Welcome aboard, too! I forgot to mention that.

No need to apologize. I love Wyoming. My brother managed many ranches in western Colorado and middle/northern Wyoming. I spent several Spring and Winter Breaks from college helping him and SIL with cattle and horses. (While younger kids were party-hardy in Florida, southern Texas, or Mexico beaches, I was getting frostbite from the Wyoming wind and saddlesores.)

Cody is a nice area. Enjoy the visit!!
