Passing of another icon...

Very sad. Poul was the very first fly fishing “celebrity” that I ever met, back in my early days. Some years ago, Jim Bashline put out a series of cassette tapes wherein he interviewed many of the famous names in fly fishing. I have the Poul Jorgensen tape and the Lee Wulff tape in this series. Both cassettes have been played countless times on my long drives up to the Catskills. I am saddened by the passing of all these guys. Today’s yuppie-ish icons will never replace them in my book.

When I was beginning to tie flies I had an OLD book that wasn’t very helpful. One day when I was at the Ketchikan Public Library I found a video on tying flies.

Yep, you guessed it. Poul Jorgensen was giving the lessons. I learned SO MUCH from that one video. I certainly have him to thank (or is it blame ) for me not giving up on fly tying. I was just about at wits end trying to figure out alot of the stuff on my own.

Poul showed me the light…
