It took me entirely too long to get around to tying this variation but I think it was worth the wait.

Hook: Firehole 419, size 20
Thread: Veevus 14/0, Black
Body: FTD Congo Hair, Black, Looped in front and back of hook
Post: FTD P.I.P. (Parachute Indicator Post), Color of your choice
Hackle: Black, tied parachute style
I know nothing about the floatability of Congo hair, but your modification with color certainly makes it more visible.
Well Congo Hair is like a fine poly yarn so it’s fairly buoyant. Hell, the original Iris Ant is still floating in its little shot glass in my tying room, mostly because I forgot about it until the other day. Granted this pattern probably wouldn’t survive very long in any sort of moving water, but real ants that fall in have to drown sometime, right?
