“…but then again fishing season is drawing nearer”
[b] My question when does fly fishing begin for you? The only fishing right now in SE Michigan is ice fishing. I tried to fish the little river that runs through our village but the guides iced up solid after just a couple of cast last week. I suppose south of the Mason Dixon line everyone can fly fish almost anytime. Regulations will be an issue of course when it comes to trout.
In Pennsylvania it depends on where you are and what species you are fishing for. Our “Trout” season will start on the last Saturday in march for the southeastern counties this year. Everyone else starts on April 14th. There are, however, some special regulation streams that are open year round.
Pan fish never go out of season, other species go out long enough to cover their early spring spawn. Too many regulations to list so if you want to know more about Pa seasons, sizes and creel limits check out this site:
In Oregon we can fly fish year around for most species of fish subject to seasonal closures in various parts of the state. My problem with fishing is that hunting season gets in the way - or maybe it is the other way around
At home in the Rockies, I had to trade in my rod for 2 sticks and seek out the fluffy stuff. OR pursue the waterfall ice for some vertical enjoyment.
So in Utah, my season didn’t start until March.
Since moving to the eastern flat-lands, I’d hoped to fish all year long. But, we’ve been receiving ridiculously cold temps lately, so the fishin has been out. I haven’t been fishing for over a month! Hopefully, it’ll warm up a little bit soon…
