Pale Morning Sparkle Dun

Hi,

Not sure this photo shows clearly enough. I am mixing dubbing to try to get a real natural looking body on this fly. I think having two slightly different colors provides a hint of segmentation. What do you think?
Thanks,
Byron

Great tie. I can see the subtle differences.
Not to take away from it, but will those tones still show up when wet? It seems like in my experience, subtle color differences get washed away once it hits the water.

Good question. I was thinking both colors would darken slightly, preserving the difference. Will check that out.

After your question, I tied this.

Your comparadun/sparkledun wings are great. I like the color variation as well. I’ve never been able to tie a comparadun well. My proportions are off and the wings are too thin or something. What kind of deer hair are you using? Mine tend to float with the body vertically in the water column with the fan of the wings in the film.

Greg

I’m not the best to ask, probably. If you go to youtube and do a search for “sparkle Dun” and then view the one by Craig Mathews at Blue Ribbon Flies. He and his partner, John Juracheck, designed the pattern.
Thanks Greg

I’ll have to check it out.

Greg,
I tied another fly and took some photos to try to show the deer hair tips. Comparaduns are tied best when the little dark tips are really short!!!

Maybe you can see that in these photos:

Byron,

Outstanding flies and great photos; looks like you mixed some colors in the shuck on the last fly.

Regards,
Scott

Yes, I did. I like to mix things up once in a while

That is a great looking pattern. The wings are superb.

Thanks. It’s the hair!!

Good compardun hair is so hard to get. Short even black tips are the secret.

But it still takes skill to tie it right, and you did!

Thanks for the close up of the wings Byron. As many have commented before, your photos are great and so are the ties. I have to get some dear hair that works and give these a shot again.
