There are several factors that the angler must consider when fishing dry mayfly imitations over selectively feeding trout. Approach, presentation, line control, pattern selection, tackle considerations, and an understanding of the trout all play a part in the success or failure of the angler.

Nice article; I especially liked the section on splashy rises. Fishing the Madison during a real nice epeorus hatch a couple weeks ago, the bigger fish exhibited very proper table manners while dining on duns/windblown cripples while the little fish were jumping around like kids in McDonalds. However whenever a flav dun would drift down, the big fish would nail it like they hadn’t eaten in weeks.
