Hi
My daughter paints pictures with oil and water paintings. I have been wondering for a long time how it would be to “paint” the flies. This could be ideal for nymps and fry.
Well to make a long story short, I tried it out and here you can see the outcome.
The material can be seen in one of the pictures, missing from it is the 5 minute epoxy.
These are the two flies I made, they will become better with practise, f.ex. I would need to flatten the area where the eyes come before painting them on or maybe just glue on some already made eyes but it’s nicer the have the whole pattern painted. Also the body needs some refining.
The painting is acryl paintings from my daughter.
The body is built up with wool and then comes cotton (from old shorts).
I then paint the cotton with pensil, thats great fun
I then put 5 minute epoxy over the body when the painting has dried, that protects it compleatly.
I wrap over the cotton with the thread, it doesn’t seem to matter although the body is rough afther that, the epoxy smoothes things out.
Nothing is new under the sun, but I havent seen any painted flies, they must be out there, do you know of a site with some?
