You can be sure that whenever this counsel is urged upon you its proponent knows little, if anything, about canoes. He is merely repeating an old saw, one that should be set to rest once and for all!

When I bought my first canoe back in the mid '70s, I bought that book, which is a no frills, common sense approach to canoeing, camping, weather, etc. A great book, thanks for the quote, which I remember well.
