(OUESTION) Got a new fly tying kit.

Today me, my dad, and mom went to a nearby GANDER mnt, and I got a new fly tying kit. It has sissors, a bobin, a bobin threader, and a lot more but I don’t know what some of the things are in it. Wish I could post a picture, But I DON’T KNOW how. Is all I can do is tell you the name and hope that can help you. It is a ZEPHER TOOL KIT, MADE BY: COLORADO ANGLER SUPPLY INC. Anything will help.

                              thanks,

I’m not familiar with that kit but I am pretty sure you"ll find most common tools identified in Al Campbell’s begining tying lessons. Go to the menue on the left of your screen and click on fly tying and follow the links to beginners lessons. You will learn there both what you have and how to use it.

all leaders tangle; mine are just better at it than most. Jim

Rainbow,

  THANKS!!!!!!

Really, Al’s instructions are probably the best on the Net for a beginner. A lot of times, people who are experts can’t help a beginner very well because they have forgotten what it was like being a beginner. Al didn’t do that.

Start with lesson one. Work your way through the series and you’ll do just fine.

Good as Al’s instructions are, there will be times when you need a little more help on something. Al wrote great, but he didn’t do animated instructions or videos, for example. Just Google it and chances are you’ll find what you need.

But follow Al’s curriculum. It is well planned.

You are starting tying at least 40 years earlier than I did. You are a lucky guy! Wish I had started when you did.

Don’t forget to ask your Dad.
He knows a coupe of things about tying flies.

Fisherkid93… I have a Cabelas catalogue in front of me and I am looking at a picture of a Zephyr AA kit. I’m betting the tools you are having problems identifying are the whip finish tool (which resembles a Z) on a rotating handle and the dubbing twister which would look “kind of” like a V with a hook to grab the thread to spin the thread. Possibly the rotating hackle pliers too. That would be the black tipped tool on another rotating long handle. The catalogue shows 3 bobbins, a bobbin threader, 2 scissors, tweezers, hair stacker, a bodkin… which is nothing more than a needle on a fancy handle and the tools I mentioned above. You should also have the vise and a pedestal base. I hope this helps.

Another great resource is [url=http://www.troutflies.com:4a616]www.troutflies.com[/url:4a616]
It takes you photographically through many steps to create good useable flies. Have fun.
