dave, don’t you mean ‘ice driking’? i doubt there is much fishing going on…
Archery Hunting, Wing Shooting, Gardening,
& Composing Music !!!
Since the snow doesn’t really blow here in Arizona (once in awhile in Tucson, & mostly in the mountains) I am blessed to be able to fly fish year round & can never catch up at the tying vise !!!

‘Ice driking’? I see that you are well into your afternoon libations.
it’s five o’clock somewhere, my friend…
I enjoy running and bicycling. Keeps me in shape so I can get to those holes that are deeper in the woods. I also enjoy gardening, and my wife loves flowers. If I dig enough flower beds, pretty soon I’ll be able to sell the lawn mower.

The only limitations we have are the ones we put on ourselves.
During the fall and winter I spend a lot of time hunting. And when the weather cooperates I spend a fair ammount of time training for multisport. 2006 will be my first full tri- and duathlon season, and this winter there will be a lot of time spent on the track and in the lap pool. Oh, and I’m also a full time engineering student, so I get about 15 hours a week of homework to keep me nice and busy
Mo,
Hobby…?
You dare say that to some…Flyfishing and or Tying are mearly Hobbies…lol…ok…to me those are just a part of life…Hobbies are listed after those things in my profile…
“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best
Everyone wants to excel in this sport but at the same time we let traditionalists place restrictions on our tactics, methods, and ideas. I always assumed that fly fishing was a sport that allowed imagination, creation, adaptation, investigation, dedication, education, revelation? : Fox Statler, On Spinners (Not the dainty Dry Fly kind) “Spinner’d Minner Fly”

In the winter it snowmobiles, home improvement and reading {I am a natural born speed reader} when not tying flies or chasing winter Steelhead. Winter is the season I do the least fishing but with a winter Steelhead river close to home its easy to get a few hours on the water here and there before most people have even had breakfast on the weekend.
In the Sping and Summer its camping, tying flies, fishing, kayaking lakes and Puget Sound but always with a flyrod aboard and taking the boat out to Yacht club cruises. We have the smallest boat on the cruises being only 18.5" with most of the rest being 32 feet or bigger and many over 40 but we still have fun.
Fall: its all fishing and getting the boats ready for winter storage and getting the snowmobile out of summer storage and if time, get a head start on winter home improvement projects. Most of my reading is how to books on things like boat repair, fly tying and boat safety etc.
I also try to find some time to help out on some Trout Unlimited projects when I can work it in. I really enjoy helping with river clean ups and feeding the fish in the pens.
All of this and I still work 10-11 hours a day and commute 2 hours a day, 5 days per week.
I’ve got a Greenhouse and spend a lot of time in it in April untill opening day!
I like to read, winter pastime. Do a little woodworking. Oh yeah! build rods!!
So far Jim Hatch is the winner in my book. I wish he’d post some photos and tell us more.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!

I like woodworking, especially turning bowls. I also like paddling the canoe, camping, and geocaching. My reading interests are usualy sci fi and mysteries. And I like getting together with friends to play board games like Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, and Fluxx.
As might be guessed from my username, I enjoy canoeing. I don’t do as much as I once did, because for some reason that canoe seems to get a little heavier each year. Since I usually fish streams I almost never fish from the canoe. I’m usually by myself, and it gets a little tricky trying to manage the canoe while I’m casting or playing a fish. I am also a voracious reader, usually reading a book per day.

Hey Jack,
Thanks for your vote.G Sounds like
you may be an aspiring treehouse builder as
well. I just finished a book and web site
for Berkeley County, SC designating paddle
trails. Phase II, to begin shortly, is the
addition of treehouses and cabins on these
waterways for paddlers. I have a lot of
latitude as to what I do, plenty of support,
and a budget that will do the project
justice. I’ll post pictures on the web site
as I make progress. You can find it at: [url=http://www.berkeleyblueways.com:76def]www.berkeleyblueways.com[/url:76def] and I’ll post a
heads up here when I have some pics. Warm
regards, Jim
I used to motocross and three wheel atv in the sand dunes at Moses lake Wa . but arthritis put an end to that . I also had to give up kayaking for the same reason . Now I raise tropical fish , make radio controlled working model sailboats . I love to cook . I like woodworking but am no good at it .
I was planning on making a 7 story tree house next year so that I can win the title of best poster on this thread but didn’t want to break Jim’s heart .
I’m married, with children, what’s a hobby?
I play basketball on sunday nights, softball in the summer,I’m learning to tie flys and I just finished the rod kit I got for Christmas, last year.
Restoring damaged old portraits and prints (vintage). And photography; taking and printing (re: old style darkroom).

Hey Gnu Bee,
I concede! But I do so only in
deference to the dramatic age difference
we share (I’m 6 months your junior). I
respect my elders.G
I suspect a correlation between the motor X
and arthritus. I raced motorcross, hare
scrambles and enduro’s until my mid 30’s.
Today I take Celebrex every morning and
every evening and reflect on how much fun it
was in the day. I also went from racing
the real sailboats to the relatively smaller
RC versions. My last boat was a 1/3 scale
model of Sam Rabl’s Picaroon. 6’ overall
and strip planked. Very pretty. I built
the sail winch using a cordless drill motor.
I also got into the tropical fish for a
number of years. My fav’s were Pacu’s and
Oscar’s. They would grow huge in 50 gallon
tanks. Was all the wife could do to keep me
from testing my flies on them.G They
would have been a hoot on a 3 weight. Did
not get back into the tropicals after our
move to the country. Now have a gold fish
in a nice bowl sitting on my bench. Sushi
ignores my flies and is quite content as
long as he gets his fish flakes daily.
If your travels should ever bring you to
this part of the country, I do hope you
will stop in. I’m sure we could wet a
line and tell some interesting stories.
Warm regards, Jim
I always test my flies on my fish. I dangle it in front of the glass and if my arowana goes after it I know its a winner. Then again he goes after all the flies whether they are any good or not.
Who has time for stress when there are fish to catch.
