Orvis Superfine rods

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has used either the Orvis 7’4wt (one ounce) or the 6’4wt (flea). I’m looking for a rod to fish very small streams in PA. Tried a 2wt and 3wt and found that wind was a problem.
Thanks for your input.

I am not familiar with either of the rods you mention.
When you decide on a Superfine you better hurry cuz they are being discontinued.
I recently bought a Far and Fine at the link above (FnF’s are all gone now) but I see at least one of the rods you mention there(the link) and on sale.

Hi- I have one for sale on E-bay- they are beatiful little rods - very soft all the way through the but-but they are for very litttle streams- calm days- they are dainty and cute and I love the rod, but for reasons of practicality I think I will have as much fun with a 2wt forecast or 35$ tiger eye rod building kit - The superfine is super and fine- but for very small streams unless it is really calm

spike-2:

I have fished the Orvis One Ounce 7’0" 4wt and liked it a lot but I LOVED the 7’0’ 4wt Superfine Trout Bum which is slower and 4 pieces to boot. I’ve never fished the modern Orvis Flea.

I fish a LOT of REALLY small streams in PA and for the most part I prefer a slow rod that will load well at the short distances that I usually cast. For the really small creeks I like a 6’6" rod that throws a 3 or 4 weight line. I don’t find too much issue with wind on the heavily overgrown creeks I fish.

Obviously you will have your own preferences but if you have the opportunity, try the rods you mentioned along with the Trout Bum at short distances. I am sure you will find one you like. The Orvis Superfine is a great rod IMHO.

Another vote for the Superfine Trout Bum, a terrific small stream rod!

I recently picked up the 7’-6" 2-piece 3wt “Tippet” and the 7’-0" 4-piece 4wt “Trout Bum” and firmly believe that they are the finest small stream rods ever made, bar none!

Just my 2 cents worth!

I believe the Superfine isn’t being discontinued, just redesigned for 2007. Perhaps it was just the 150th Anniversary Superfine that was referred to as being discontinued or no longer available after 2006…

All I have heard is rumors. From threads here and other bb’s I read that the Superfine series as we know it is being discontinued and replaced with a “Superfine Trout Bum” series with a crisper action. Someone say the new series at the Denver tackle show and said it is indeed a different action than the current Superfines. Orvis redesigned the cosmetics of the Superfines just a couple of years ago. It makes sense to me they would not change the looks of the series again so soon and not change the way they cast.
And as I posted previously in this thread you can find them on sale.

If all I read is true I’m not taking a chance. I like the Superfines just as they are/were.

I have both, Superfine one ounce and the Trout bum. Like them both. The one ounce is a blast to fish with, action not being that different from the Bum. TB advantage is it is a 4 pc instead of 2. I also have the Far and Fine. I have used the FLEA and it is a very different rod. Like the 5’3" Fenwick I just bought. You have to really slow down, not cause it is a noodle, the complete opposit. Full flex but feels stiff cause it is so short. You have to wait for it to load up, but not the same feel as a boo or glass load (does that make sense?)
I agree that the Superfines as you know them are being discontinued. The new are to be crisper. As far as the TROUT BUM name, have heard nothing on that.
