I am considering an Orvis Mid-Arbor in a 10wt for pike and musky fishing. Anybody had any experience with this year in the size? Other suggestions for a reasonably priced 10wt reel?
I have one in the 8wt. I like the reel a lot. But…I actually like the Okuma Integrity better. Similar drag and a beefy build. It costs half the price and spare spools run about 23 bucks. (That is a third of the price of the Orvis spool.)
The integrity also has a well designed drag adjustment that is easy to adjust while playing a fish.
Thanks Fishigan. I’ll check out the Okuma.

Rick,
I have both reels, though the Canela’s mid arbor is in a smaller size. It’s a very good reel for the money. I’d buy another.
I also have the Okuma Integrity in 10/11. This is the reel that is on my spey rod (size 8/9) The capacity is tremendous, very beefy reel. I have heard some complaints that the drag will spin free when the drag gets wet. I have not encountered this problem in a years fishing and the reel has been dunked several times.

I currently own the #6 weight version for my Sage 960 VPS. I have had no problems with the reel at all. I think for the money, they are one of the finest on the market today.
Just my thoughts,

Buy a Ross Canyon Big Game 5 and never look back. American engineered, American made, all forged/machined. Little to zero startup inertia, capable of giving you 12lbs of drag. When you get into the big fish and have only a few chances to land the fish of a lifetime, it is no time to become a miser.
If you are internet savvy, you can pick them up less than the mfr.'s min. advertised price, and even used.
Where’s the ORvis mida-arbor being made, China, Korea or somewhere else in the orient?

I have nothing against Ross other than they are overpriced for what you get. Which in my opinion ain’t much.
