Orvis fly reel Madison IID 4 weight ???

For 33.00 did I make a good deal on this?

Don’t normaly buy w/o a clue but this is pretty much what I wanted…from what I gather, an older (not collectible/antique) piece of Orvis.

I plan on using it.

Any thoughts on these reels?

The first fly reel I bought was a Madison for my 8wt. That would have been 1988 or so and it cost me $50. The drag button fell off, but it still catches fish.

I’ve had mine for 25 years or so and I’m always looking for another good one…not getting any easier to find for a deal. Great reel for steel…keep it clean, oh and it’s reversible too. Also I think there might be smaller sizes.

Cheers,

RAW, hope to catch you out by the skate park sometime this year…water is almost even with 315 this morning…be od to see the flow with more than a trickle after last fall.

Montana, ugh 8 wt. ??? I hope not, seller says it’s a 4 wt…if he is wrong, I might be a sellin’…keep you posted.

Like I said, couldn’t find anything on it anywhere.

BR - Man I am going stir crazy. I need to fish bad. I just got to practice casting last week for the first time since September. I had hand surgery. One Saturday last year, I was under the bridge at 270 when the rain started. It was such a hard rain that I hid under the bridge rather than try to make it back to the car. I sat there amazed as the river just kept rising. I knew the days fishing was over when a huge stump went sailing, and I mean sailing, by.
