Orvis All Rounder?

Hi
Anyone familiar with this rod. It’s from the eighties I think. It’s an 8’3" 7 weight.
Thanks
Dave

I’m not familiar with the rod. I see them on ebay from time to time.
The discription, ie specs on the rod does not seem like something that would fit into my needs. However the specs on the Far and Fine don’t either but its one of my favorite rods.

It was slow, somewhat fullflex rod that was 8’3" and 2pc.I dont believe it was ever very popular at the time but some people like it now.I have one but its a boron/graphite model from the Powerflex Series. Its a powerful rod,not a slow one.I havent seen the all rounder for sale in a long time.

I bought one in 1983 to use for smallmouths. Still have it but haven’t cast it in 15 years. It is definitely slow.

Regards,
Scott

Dave,
I bought one in the late 70’s. It was my first graphite fly rod.
Why do you want to know about it?

I’m looking for a 7wt and like the shorter rods. I have a chance to pick one up.

Dave,
In trying to remember what the action was like, I think it was fast. Mine was put to the test when I hooked and landed a 7 lb steelhead with it. I’m sorry to say I don’t have it anymore. It cost me $130.00 30 yrs ago and I wasn’t too happy about spending that much considering my Eagle Claw cost $12.00.
I think the price of that rod forever put me in a bad mood about spending a fortune for a rod.
How old is the All Rounder your looking at???

It’s probabaly 20+ years. My first rod was a Wright McGill Sweetheart – probabaly about that price. Still have I think I’ll take it out this weekend!

My first graphite fly rod purchase to get out of the bamboo/ fiberglass stage in the mid ‘80’s! A 4 piece 8’ #7 weight ( they were also made in the 8’3" length ) that was a whole lot faster than bamboo in casting flys to smallmouths. In todays rod flex ratings it would be in the medium range, but still a pleasure to flyfish with as it will handle flylines from a #5 for trout & bluegills to an #8 for the bigger deer hair bass bugs! The outfit had an Orvis CFO IV to match. 8)

I bet in today’s line size shy, fly fishing world; an “All Rounder” would be a 5wt or 6wt.

It’s funny how a 7wt didn’t scare us OR the fish back then…

Thanks all Dave
