First, (before I forget as usual), "Welcome, BB, to the FAOL site!
Now, to the survey… thank you, for that link, and you’re correct in saying; “It’s quite interesting”!
However, NOT AT YOUR POST, but at the actual survey itself, it brought a good chuckle from me. When this “survey”, was first began, ONE member of our local fly club had recieved a written one in his personal mail.
Jim brought it to one of our meetings and asked if anyone else had received one, and/or, been contacted by phone, etc. about it. Out of the 33 attending that particular meeting, none of us had to that date. But, we discussed it and all agreed, that “IF” contacted, we of course would respond.
Well, after 3 months of waiting for a “survey” of sorts to arrive in some manner to each of us, when the topic arose again, NOT ONE of our 71 members had received any sort of survey from the ODFW.
We thought that “KIND of odd, since that’s 71 Oregon Resident License Holders”, overlooked so our club rep, that handles correspondence, etc. with local agencies, contacted ODFW about the survey. He was told, nicely in a return letter, "That the survey was over, but thanks, anyway for “being interested”!?!
Now, admittedly; "an odd bunch", our club consensus was.............. "Who, really, DIDN'T GET this survey, among the local Oregon fishing clubs"? So a few of us, who know others in other clubs, started checking around about it.
To make a long story, longer, after we'd spoken to 11 other clubs and 123 other club members, 29 had received the survey. How, many other, Oregon fishermen and women had been missed is anyone's guess!?!
Of course, this survey states that “it’s a random cross section survey” and “does not include every license holder in Oregon”, “no juvenile license holders”, etc. It also does not include any “tourist’s or out of state” license holders, of which Oregon’s tourist industry holds a tremendous amount of tourist’s dollars in the sport of fishing. So, how accurate this survey is/was, I suppose is anyone’s guess.
For myself, I’m really surprised at the high percentage of “White Fish Fishermen”, even at the stated “3%”!! I just don’t see what that “3%” would be doing, I guess, “Actually pursuing white fish” to begin with??
Seriously, though, I again thank you for the link IT WAS interesting to read!
