Hello, I posted this question in the “Things Wanted” forum, very few views though… Some time ago, I saw an Old Florida FW456 reel for sale and ALMOST bought it. Wondering if anyone has one of these, what they think of them etc. They look sturdy…like they could take a knock or two! LOL They were not expensive new…should have grabbed one…

I posted into your Wanted Q, but didn’t say anything about the reel. I do like mine-gold frame with black spool is kinda cool. It’s reasonably light, balancing well on a 5wt, and does appear to be pretty indestructible. It’s a very simple design, w/o a drag per se. It’s center nut simply tightens- I think it’s an old Loop design. If I have a criticism, it’s that the “drag” is really touchy, and a bump or two will send it into freespool.
