Ontario Salmon and Steelhead

Looking to make the trek around Toronto (maybe Gannie or Credit) to catch salmon. I am a complete rookie though. Anywhere we might have a chance of catching one fish for a weekend of fishing with a campground i would love to hear about. Any tips flies techniques and things like seasons for the salmon in the great lakes?

Anything and everything you think might help, probably would.

Thanks a million

I fish the Erie & Ontario salmon/steelhead streams here in NY. The kings and coho’s are already in most of the streams, as are the steelies on the Erie tribs, although not in great numbers yet. Usually, around mid-October, the streams are pretty well loaded up.
As far as patterns, there are tons. You can keep it pretty simple with a variety of egg patterns, buggers, egg sucking leeches and stonefly nymphs. Most of the streams around here can be fished with a floating line but sink-tips are pretty popular too. The main thing you wan to remember is to get the fly to the bottom. Kings generally don’t move much to take a fly, so get it as close to them as possible. Hooking one of those brutes is like hooking a moving car…HOLD ON!

Good Luck!

Here are 3 sites that should have more information, although they seem a little slow at the moment.

Off-hand I can’t think of any campsites near the places you want to fish - those rivers are really near/in urban areas.
