On-line fly patterns and Recipes

I am curious if someone can recommend a good website to find fly patterns and recipes…

one of the best is www.charliesflybox.com

another one is GOOGLE

theanglersnet is good one

I’m another fan of Charlies Fly Box. Great videos and tutorials.

Kelly.

Charlie is the best; Harry Mason has some nice ones, too:

This one’s not bad, either:

If you go on Youtube, you can find lots of excellent videos on a wide range of flies, including Kelly’s excellent foam PMD nymph.

Scott

Let’s not forget Donald Nicholson’s site: http://www.dtnicolson.dial.pipex.com/

His site is probably the definitive site for North Country spiders and traditional soft hackles.

That’s easy:

Go to the main page of this site click on fly tying and search the archives,
Many good patterns and recipes tied by some of FAOL’s best tiers as well
as some of the good tiers from the sites mentioned above.

In addition to FAOL & Charlie’s FlyBox, here’s another fine site with good tutorials.

I prefer the tutorials that I can print & follow the steps at my bench. I hold the papers upright using a “Page Up” or “Page Pal” document holder right behind the vise.

i found a good one theweeklyfly.com

The archives on this site, of course. then

If you’re looking for just trout patterns, I have what I carry on my blog. Maybe you’ll find something that works for you.

NJTroutbum, the flies on your blog look great. Thanks.

Everybody, it is well worth a look at:

I’ve been around her long enough to have experienced “knowing”, via this site, Al Campbell back when we were still blessed with his presence and postings. What an amazing and wonderful guy! His tying instructions are what got me started. The instructions there, and in the archives of this site, are an amazingly valuable resource for tyers.

Google can also take me to a place to find specific tying instructions.

But, like others have said, Charlie Craven’s site is extremely helpful for me,
http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/index.cfm

I consider Charlie to be a true genius when it comes to tying. He has developed a lot of patterns that work great for me, since I fish in the same area. And he has figured out some tricks and tips that make tying easier, better and faster. He seems to have a lot of the same characteristics as Al, but with the advantage of an Internet, and digital photography, that are more advanced these days.

I don’t know Charlie well enough to claim him honestly as a friend and I’ve never fished with him. But we know each other well enough to be on a first name basis when we meet. With that caveat, let me recommend the book, Charlie Craven’s Basic Fly Tying. And not just for beginners. Though it duplicates some of the flies on his Fly Box web site, it also has updates reflecting what he has learned since he first posted the instructions on the net. I love his website instructions, but I’ve found quite a few places in the book where he has discovered ways to make the fly better or faster.

But, if you are just looking to cruise tying sites, here’s another good one.

Ed…I appreciate it. It started out as a way to catalog my favorite patterns, but has grown a bit. Hopefully you found a pattern that works for you on some water.
