Olive Stimi (Irish Style)

hook - Mustad 94840 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - squirrel hot orange
rib - oval tinsel gold
abdomen - dubbing olive
body hackle - olive
wing - deer hair
thorax - dubbing hot orange
hackle - grizzly dyed hot orange

Very pretty fly. So this is just a Bumble with a tail? In other words, a trolling fly? Great tie!

Most of the Bumbles I’ve seen have tails of various materials - golden pheasant tippet, GP crest, yarn, but no deer hair wing. This is similar to our Stimulators; it just seemed that they were tied with more of a swept-back front hackle. I folded the hackle, tied it in by the tip and stroked it back while wrapping down the thorax.

Sorry, meant to say “wing” and this is a very nice example. I had heard they liked trolling Stimulators in the UK, but had not realized they tied them in a different style than the US version. Fascinating.
