This is a picture of my old hair stacker from 30+ years ago. It is made of bar stock aluminum. It is the smoothest stacker I have ever used for all but the tiniest of flies. It is shown next to a small stacker by AK Best (my second favorite stacker). A dime shown for size comparison.
I don’t think the large one is made anymore. I took it to a manufacturer and had a bunch made (quite expensive). In the process of moving, I seem to have lost them. Will keep looking.
Anyone else have this old-time stacker, and what do you think of yours???
UPDATE!!!
Just received a new hair stacker from Jay at JVICE today. It is solid brass. Small, but nice weight to it. It has a cone shaped top insert part which makes it nice to focus the stacked tips.
It is very nice! I think it is $17.
I’ve got the A.K. one. Who made the other, and more importantly, how do you keep that dime from rolling off the table? Sorry, just couldn’t resist! LOL!!!
I have the gigunda stacker that A.K. Best used to made, which is great for long hair on streamers. I also have a homemade aluminum stacker that is 4-1/2" long that my nepher turned for me on his lathe, and is great for stacking deer tail hair. Looks a little like yours, but is very plain.
I have the stacker on the left also. Bought somewhere around 30+ yrs ago also. Bought a smaller one awhile back for smaller amounts of hair. The large on still works great for larger amount of hair. Thought I was the only one with one of those. LOL
I don’t have one, but I do remember those closed-end stackers. They seemed to work well but for some reason didn’t catch on. I haven’t seen one in years.
