I bought an old fishing book recently and it had this picture in it. Apart from the view of the River Tweed it was the pairs of Clydesdales ploughing the field I really liked to see. Working horses survived in Scotland until the early fifties, there was a brewery behind our house in Edinburgh and they used the big horses for all deliveries when I was young, so was the delivery of milk although not by Clydesdales. I had a part time job helping the milkman, all we did was deliver the milk - the horse knew the round and got on with it.
It doesn’t seem a long time ago to me.

Donald,
My grandfather worked the heavy horses in East Lothian for most of his life. My uncle now breeds and demonstrates the horses.
Great pic… brought back some lovely memories!
I work in Blackburn Lancashire, Thwaites brewey still have their heavy horses and you see them regularly in town, fantastic when you see them all done up.
Great picture, Donald. I often wish we had water like that here in my part of the USA.
I like the draft horses quite a bit. My brother had a couple for a while, now he’s raising a team of oxen. It probably runs in the family, check this one out. My great-great grandfather and 2 mules…
My family raised these for WWI.
There’s almost nothin’ wrong with the first lie, it’s the weight of all the others holdin’ it up that gets ya’! - Tim
