"Old Fly" Swap

Being the avid historian I have watched with interest at the section run by the Lady Fisher on the classic flies. I have never hosted a swap, but think this would be a great one. So the rules are that it has to be a classic fly with a history, or one from the archives on this site. I will start with 10 (including me) and go up to 15 if there is enough interest. I am still searching the archives for my fly. Let me know.

Sorry, lets say the deadline is a week from today, 1/20/06, and the deadline for flies is 2/10/06, that will give a little longer in case any of the flies are super hard and need extra time, also to get materials, wings, etc…

I wish you all everlasting flies and tight lines.

Drew;
Put me in for a Madson’s Barber Pole. A traditional AuSable River fly.
I have to tie a bunch for the Fish-In. I had entered it in another swap but changed out for another wet fly.
P.S. I’d like to get some swaps going for the AuSable Fish-In.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!

Cactus

bumping it up…

c’mon guys and gals!! lets go through the archives and tie up some of these “old flies”! this swap could be great!!!

I’ve never done a swap before, but this category interests me. An Adirondac, Ben Bent, Grizzly King, etc. Blind eye with leader, of course.
I’ll tie the Fin Fly, it’s a nice old wet fly.

Zim,
This will be my first swap. I’ve read previous swap information and pretty sure I know what to do. I will be tying the Doctor Mummy.

Cheers,
Mike

All right I have set on the fence long enough for this one. I’m in, Fly TBD (most likely a classic wet like a coachman or professor)

…fly tying is the next best thing to fishing; it is the sort of licking of the lips that eases a thirsty man in the desert

I think I want in but let me do some research.

How about a Mickey Finn.

Lets have two more people to make it an even 12. For those of you already in, if your flies are tied, send them with return postage to:

I’ll fill that last spot if I can. I’ll have to look through the archives for the fly. If I can tie a fancy enough one worth sending I will, if I’m in and Don’t think it’s good enough after a 1/2 dozen or so I’ll send one as fancy but good enough for a swap as I can.

Awaiting your answer, Adam

YOUR IN!!! Just kidding on the fanciness, whatever you tie will be perfect. So the swap is closed, the timeline is the same and you have my address. I am looking forward to receiving these flies. For the TBD folks, let me know as soon as you can. EMail me at any time with any questions, just make sure you put fly swap or something in the message, so I don’t send it out with the junk that I constantly get.

So should we tie up 12 flies?

Yes, 12 flies each due at the above due date to my address, except for Jack Hise who owes me 10 Madson’s Barber, since I will be using them at the fish-in.
