Old dog / new tricks

If you’re cheap like me, you’ll like this;

The local supermarket has started using a velcro like material to truss up it’s veggies such as romain or asparagus.
When I saw one of these come home the other day I knew it was just the thing to use as a line tender on my extra spools. The hooks and loops are much smaller than standard velcro and I don’t know how long they will stand up. But what the heck, they’re free.

While I had velcro on the brain I came up with another item.

The price of tippit dispencers is a bit more then reasonable for my taste and I’ve been looking for an alternative for a long time.
The other day, I found that four tippet spools will fit perfectly into a check wallet.
With a couple pieces of velcro to close up each side and hold in the spools, along with four small holes melted into the vinyl to dispence the tippet from , I got just what I was looking for.

dudly:

The stuff you saw in the market MAY be the Velcro branded stuff sold at garden centers to tie up plants. It is green, about 1/2" wide and sold in rolls.

It may not be free in the garden center but it’s easier than eating 10 lbs of broccoli to get free ones at the market .

I still use strips of rags to tie up my tomatoes.

Free is my favorite color!

I use the strips of Velcro used by Electricians to bind cables together. Used as “Rod Ties” and around tippet spools.

Dudley, I cut up strips from my wife?s old pantyhose for tomato stake ties. They don’t hold water or rot. I have been using the same ones for years.

Some days it’s just not worth chewing through the restraints…

Hi Dudley,
although your idea is a good one, most of the spools of tippet material I have seen and/or own, already have the spool minders on them.

Forgot to say in my previous reply that all of the tippet spools I have snap together so it becomes one unit with three different sizes and all I have to do is pass a length of leather shoe string or gimp or any other type of string or rope through the center hole and hang the spools from the D ring on my vest or on my bass chest pack. Easier to access them in a hurry. Hope this helps.

so much water… so little time to fish it…

gerri,
I’ve used that method for many years, never cared for it. It takes up a lot of space.

Duff,
Reusing pieces of hose for multi-years is REALY cheap,I love it!
