Wow, did you catch that at taney. They must be spawnin. Hope this warm weather doesnt screw anything up either. Only one and half weeks til I go. did you get my PM night angler?

Mike
Just got home from a no show guide trip…Boy did this guy miss out!!!
even though some would say I caught a fish of a lifetime today…
here is a “SWEET” 16.5… right at 30 inches
Dang, Leonard! You’re really getting into those big browns on Taney! Good for you!
I’m out in NM right now and was up at Lake City, CO last weekend fishing the Lake Fork of the Gunnison and upper Henson Creek. Pure backcountry wild trout…lots of dry fly action. Having a blast! They don’t have monsters like we do on Taney or the #s of fish, but it is fun, challenging, and breath-takingly beautiful fishing in almost absolute solitude.
Hope you’re having as much fun as we are.
Man nightangler your slayin them browns. Leave some for me. I will contact you next week a few days before I head down saturday night and see what’s workin and whats not. I hope you’ll be able to go too. Obviously looks like you know how to catch’m this time of year. Also have you been catchin those farther down from the damn, or have they moved up that far yet?
Leonard, I am most impressed! The hits just keep
on a coming.G Warm regards, Jim
"They don’t have monsters like we do " You have not fished the right places in CO if that is what you are after. Out of curosity what is the state record brown from MO? I must plan a trip.
What did you catch the bigger brown on??
Warm Water
Leonard, I am glad the fly worked. I had a feeling it would. Really nice fish. I guess Mike and I need to come for a visit.
Cal E. Batis
Bostonangler,
Latest State record was set on October 3, 2005 of 27 lbs, 10 ounces by Rick Osborn of Camdenton, Missouri. Caught in Lake Taneycomo.
whats the biggest trout you’ve ever caught Night Angler
Warm Water
the biggest bow was 14lbs… caught 6/17/00
the biggest brown was 22lbs… caught 9/29/02
only reason I know the dates I had these mounted,
I havent kept a big fish since
by the way the one I got the other night was on a scud… size 12
Thanks MOturkE. .
Nope! It was caught by a fellow from STL in Taneycomo this July. It was recently made official. I forget the weight, but it supercedes Osborn’s fish.
But my point was:
I was fishing backcountry streams in very high country, not a stock pond in Gunnison. A huge Brown on the Lake Fork is a 20-incher. Rainbows tend to run smaller. I was also fishing upper Henson Creek above Capitol City. There we’re talking about Brookies in the 5" to 12" range. And these are WILD fish…not carryovers from a hatchery. Not the same deal…apples and oranges…dumb to try to compare based on fish size. It is two very different types of fishing experiences. And I enjoy both very much for what each has to offer.
For me, fly fishing isn’t always about the size or numbers of fish caught. It IS always about catching fish or I wouldn’t go, but when fishing for native Brookies in a 6" deep 5’ wide beaver pond off of a 10’ wide creek at 13500’ in the Rockies using dries on a 4wt I am not targeting 20 lb lunker Browns in the Ozarks in a park at the base of a dam in the middle of town. Capiche?
I forgot about the one in July…
Thanks Mallard.
