Offset baitholder hooks.

Got a couple of packs of eagle claw 181A hooks today. They were on clearance for .50 a pack. I’m gonna tie some jitterbees on them because those have been working well for me. The hooks are offset is it a bad idea to leave them that way? Or should they be bent straight?
Janus

They should be fine with the offset. Just remember to pinch down the barbs on the shank first or they have a tendency to cut your thread.

Janus,

A lot of the hooks I tie on have an offset, along with an enlarged hook gape. I like them that way as I seem to get better hook ups. Just my .02 worth.

The Daiichi 1640 and 1130 are two hooks I use that have an offset or “reversed” point.

Like REE said offsets work fine are ARE part of the fly tying hook world.

Bamboozle,

You, in fact, mentioned my two favorite hooks that have an offset and wide gape.

REE

I like to use offset hooks on poppers. I think it may help on hook ups on larger sized poppers.

Used to tie a lot of buggers on the cheap Eagle Claws at Wal-mart, just make sure they stay dry…the ones I had rusted VERY quickly…other than that they seemed to work just as well as any other hook.

Sometimes, I would straighten, sometimes not bother.
