This Longear Sunfish was caught on October 13:Fishing has been rather slow, despite the nice weather the past few weeks. Well…nice in Saint Louis…not so nice in Florida and North Carolina, of course.I visited 2 spots on October 20. At the first spot, I was most interested in catching Orangespotted Sunfish. I’d caught them here earlier in the year. I gave it a very solid try over too many hours. Caught mostly small Green Sunfish here and there. Finally did catch an Orangespotted Sunfish, so I was happy! It’s colors were very washed out, unfortunately. Then I caught a surprise nice Freshwater Drum that peeled line off my reel on several runs.Hit a second spot on my way home. Long walk, caught a Hybrid Sunfish. Walked even further. Found a plunge-pool type spot on the creek. After a few casts, I saw what I believe was a Longnose Gar. Hoped to catch it, but I didn’t. It moved about the pool, and most of the time it was out-of-sight. So I was blind-casting around, and something big grabbed the fly. I could SEE the/a Longnose Gar, but that’s not what was on my line. Turned out to be a nice Grass Carp! FunIts that time of year.

I don’t know where you fish, but you certainly catch a variety of fish!

Thanks! Saint Louis, MO. I (we) moved here from central Iowa in mid-2020. Definitely many more species to catch here! Other than south Florida, a sweet spot seems to be even further south… near the MO / AR border in the Ozarks.

As always David - Great fishing and pictures…

That Drum looked to be a nice size and that Grass Carp was nice and big. Liked all your photos especially the turtle family (?) Dennis.

Thanks Dale and Dennis!

Nice group of fish.
