NZ Hatchmaster SBS

Not THAT Hatchmaster. Kiwi version (must have something to do with the reversed Coriolis effect); more like a crippled Humpy - a Crumpy.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - UTC 70 tan
tail/hump - deer hair
abdomen - dubbing tan
wing - deer hair
hackle - ginger grizzly

Part 1

Mash down barb, attach thread

a bit of dubbing (gives the tail/hump something to bite into)

clean, stack, measure (gap width past bend) a clump of deer hair

tie down, then a few wraps through the butts to anchor

a bit more dubbing

pull the deer hair forward, tie down (again a few wraps through the butts to prevent torque), trim, smooth with thread

Part 2

clean, stack, measure (shank length) another clump of deer hair

tie down, anchor wraps through the tips

tie in hackle and wrap wing down to the eye

wrap hackle; tie off and trim tip

trim wing butts, trim out hackle underneath (optional)

head-on

Scott

Brilliant pattern!
