Nymph Box progress

I’ve been tying this evening trying to get to a point of having “organized” fly boxes. All these flies are 16s and short shank 14s, they are also the “Too Simple” Al Campbell nymphs mostly beadheads. Next will be a SHWAPF box, then a soft hackle emerger box, and finally a dry fly box. So if I’m lucky I’ll get all the flies I use into 4 boxes…then comes cleaning out and organizing my vest…

Hi,
I was just wondering if i could use wool or dubbing instead of the punch yarn because i dont have any.

Dubbing would work fiine of course but it’s more work than punch yarn.

Punch yarn costs about two dollars for a couple hundred yards. Tie it on, wrap it like chenille or thread. It doesn’t replace dubbing for all flies of course but for many patterns, it works great and makes it fairly quick to tie the fly vs. thinning your dubbing, spinning it on the thread, etc.

It’s just another way of doing things.

There was a thread around here somewhere I think of somebody offering samples. If you can’t find it, email me a snail mail address and I’ll send you a couple yards of a couple colors to play with.

WOW! Someone has been busy. Good stuff!!

What? No streamers or WB’s?

Punch yarn is 2 plies of acrylic. If you take regular acrylic yarn and unravel it you have about the same thing, just more work.

Good lookin box o’flies. You just got to love those bead heads. They seems to always work when nothing else will.

hi,
were can i buy some punch yarn.

I got some at a craft store, but I think that any fabric store that sells yarn would have it. The craft store had a limited selection: black, brown, tan, and white; but I did pick up some extra red, yellow, green, orange, and blue for the kids to use for various craft projects.

If you need some, let me know, and I’ll pop a few yards in the mail.
