Antron was a red herring, I think. The product is actually ParaPost in “Norm Woods Special” color. Parapost is not antron, it is more like polypropylene/EP fibers/Congo Hair, etc., so all you really need is the right color. Looks like Deschutes Angler in Maupin carries it, as well as a numerous other shops if you want to hunt down the real mccoy.

I may be missing something, but, to me, the term “para post” does not refer to any specific material. It refers to a "para"chute post…just a concept in fly tying in which material is placed at wing point so that a hackle feather can be wound around it to form a parachute.

There are many blends of Antron material. And, there are many different materials which can be used to form the “post” of a "para"chute “post”.

If somebody refers to the term “Para Post” to identify a product, I would tend to believe they are referring to the specific Hareline product of that name.

Agreed. Antron’s not something I’d use for a wing on a dry fly; something in the poly family is more what I’d look for.

I have used Congo Hair from Fly Tier’s Dungeon on some Norm Woods like Salmonfly patterns. I think what I have is the salmon color.

Someone in another forum mentioned Tangerine Kool Aid dyeing as a color match…anyone know?

You could use the Koolaid for dyeing stuff like feathers, fur and hair, but I don’t think you’d have much luck with synthetic yarns like polypropylene (if that’s what you’re thinking); that’s a different breed of wax (or is it ball of cats?).

I was thinking of dying white calf tail, Scott, but am wondering if anyone actually knows if it is a good match. Back when Norm was living there seemed to be a certain mystic connected to the color he developed.

Guess that’s what made it “Special”. The pics I’ve seen look like the orange/tangerine is a bit muted; maybe try dyeing a white and a tan, or dun or pink calftail with the Koolaid and see which one looks closer to the truth.

The answer- for where you can get Norm Woods Calf Tail and Parapost material is Deschutes Angler. PS In my search today of the net, the Parapost material is what is used for wing material.
