Well, I just did it… After tying for a lot of decades and considering myself well beyond an average tyer I finally decided my vise should be, too. So I got a Nor-Vise yesterday at our local Sportsman’s Show. My son has been tying on one for years and has developed tremendous speed and dexterity with the machine and it has made him a better tyer for it. I am still in the fledgling stage of Nor-Vise speed.
And I have had every major brand of high end vise, and still own at least one of most brands. The Nor-Vise is an easy choice after all and it should have happened years ago…

I’m glad to see you join the dark side of fly tying. I’ve had mine for a number of years now and ended up selling my DynaKing Baracuda as it was just gather dust on the bench. All the Nor-Vise products are fantastic as is his customer service. I’m sure you’ll be very happy with it and who knows, maybe you’ll end up selling all those other vises to people who aren’t quite ready to join the dark side of fly tying.
I have been using the bobbins for a long time, but we often have several folks tying at the same time and just one bobbin each was not cutting it… We added 5 bobbins yesterday and a couple dozen spools. No more fighting over bobbins…

Most of the other vises will have a reason for being… a little Griffin for the traveling kit, a Traveler for times when I am going somewhere to tie and do not want to pack the baseboard… The better vises will sometimes have a full dress fly for a day or two while it is assembled.
But the Nor-Vise will do the vast majority of the duty.

Ah…Nuclear ! Are we talkin’ warp speed tying here? E= Nor vise?.
Hap, are you tyin’ for fun or are you sellin’ your flies? I must admit I’m one of those Luddite Thompson A guys and I tie purely to replace a long established supply. Occasionally I might do some experimentation but for the most part the flies are a figment of my imagination and don’t get any use. I’m afraid I’m stuck in this same ole water shed and this is where it will end for me, so I have to live vicariously fishing youz guys posts and stories.
So what’s new up there? What are you guys crankin’ out for the Hellibit? Is there a dry fly season in AK.? The impression I get down here is that it’s all egg’s, rabbit strips and mice. Are there any flies that hatch up there beside Mosquito’s? Do you fish a hatch at anytime?
Similar experience here except I did a trade with one of the members here a few years back. While the Baracuda was an excellent vise it did not serve my needs as the NorVise has.
Welcome to the fraternity hap. We have been waiting for you.
the stretch fabric is the material clip, lift it by the tabs (glued together) and slip material under and release
handle is an unused uncrimped coax connector, spring is from a mouse trap
