Took my wife on an excusion today on her inagural trip with the fly rod she finished this spring. It looked quite beautiful out on the water, and on about her fourth cast caught her first bluegill. “It’s no longer a virgin!” she shouted. She didn’t feel comfortable going out in the canoe so we camped out on a boat ramp, and everyone who came in heard her story about her hand-made rod. A bit of frustration with the light flies, so she still has a bit of spinner mentality. Now if I can only get her to watch the Joan Wolfe DVD I gave her for Mother’s Day! She was pretty darned proud, though, and so was I. JGW
