How can you tie a woolly bugger without a feather? I have used eyelash yarn and dubbing brushes with fur.
What else can you use? You tell me. Let’s see how creative we can be.
The fly can be for coldwater, warm-water or saltwater fish.
As an added bonus, I will send to each participant a few feet of the materials I use to construct my fly.
A strict limit of 12 tyers.
Sign-up will close when full or around December 15.
I will PM my address to all swap members when they sign up.
Flies due to me by January 21 2009.
I will send flies out shortly thereafter. (Unless you do not send return postage. If you don?t send postage the flies are kept in a safe place until the postage arrives.)
Please remember to put toe-tags on your flies.
International swappers are welcome. I live in upstate New York, USA.
I haven?t hosted a swap in nearly two years.
The last one was my Mardi-Gras Bead Swap. For images of that swap go to:
How about this design? I call it the Nuclear Bugger. I used synthetic marabou for the tail (real marabou would count as a feather, right?), and the hackle is purple flash Nuclear Emission Wing material from Polaris.
I just came in from work and I find that the swap is filling right up!

You are all in the swap.
BTW Gigmaster, I’ve never heard of syntetic marabou. Is it a fly tying product or something you you discovered??? Real marabou is not allowed but synthetic marabou is just fine.
I got to thinking about the swap, and the ‘No Feathers’ rule. You didn’t say “no natural, or real feathers” You said “no feathers…period”.
So my Nuclear Bugger doesn’t qualify because, the marabou may not be real marabou, but it is still an artificial feather.
Here is my second attempt, using nothing but Black Chenille, Black Craft Fur, and Purple Craft Fur. I may add a gold or silver rib to the final version.
For lack of a better name, I am calling it the Wal-Mart Bugger, because that’s usually where I get the fur.

Thread: Black Kevlar 3/0
Weight: .025 Lead-Free Roundwire
Tail: Black Craft Fur
Body: Black Med. Chenille
Hackle: Purple Craft Fur-dubbing loop style
I messed up. I got the material off of EBay without really knowing what is was. Is is ‘Imitation’ marabou, not artificial. The products actual name is Chickabou. It is still a feather. Hence, I have changed my pattern to one that can pass the strictest conditions…nothing but chenille and craft fur.
