In Al Campbell’s “Beginning Fly Tying” he mentioned no-dub. I’ve looked in all my catalogs and the closest thing I can find is ez-dub.
My dubbing may be slowly improving, but in the interest of getting some flies tied before I get to a fishing hole…I’d like to find the no-dub.
Anybody know where I can find it? :?:
Rodgerole,
Some shops carry Rainey’s No-Dub, but it’s probably easier to use Punch Yarn (At least that’s what Al told me.) It’s found in some craft stores and fabric shops. It’s used for making punch rugs. Comes in a kazzillion colors, one spool will last several life times.
There have been several threads here on Punch Yarn, where to get it and such. If your interested, try using the search feature with punch yarn as your entry.
Hope this helps,
REE

I’ll pm you a contact for Punch Yarn.
Rogerole,
It appears to me, looking at the Rainy’s website, that No-Dub is just a fuzzy, more buggy-looking yarn. I get all the yarn I need from my mom’s sheep, but the punch yarn sounds like a good idea. You could also consider using chenille for a quick and easy substitute.

Tried a few flies with chenille, but unfortunately, most of the colors I’ve got are used for tying jigs. Seem a bit to flashy for most of the patterns. Fluorescent greens, oranges, yellow and pinks, but who knows, the 'gills may not care.
Hey Rodger,
Those colors you mentioned are great gill colors.
Take a look at Al’s Crappie Candy in the FOTW
archieves and experiment with similar chain bead
patterns. Very effective warmwater patterns here.
Warm regards, Jim
If you’re tying for gills the flash won’t hurt a bit. I got some blue sparkle yarn from the local fly hop and they seemed to like it pretty well. I use it for the body on my favorite woolly worm. Easy to tie; blue yarn body, palmered with a brown hackle, ribbed with black thread if desired. It’s been one of my more productive flies for gills, well that and the white foam spider.
