I’ve had small native fish follow us while wading in the Yuba River here in California. There’s a campground we go to about once a year with friends and you can swim in the river right next to the campsights. You can fish, but all I’ve ever seen are fish too small to be worth chasing.
They will come right up to you though as you walk. If you stand still, they’ll soon wander off because you’re not stirring anything up.
You can swish your hands around in the gravel on the bottom and they’ll swarm your hands.
I’d love to have a collection of trout like those shown by PALongbow following me around.
Thanks for letting me know where that water is. Looks like a nice area to fish…I’m still amazed at the size and quantity of fish in that water that follow you around…do people troll when they do the shuffle ?

After dunking my Kodak on a fishing trip last year I decided it was time for a waterproof model. You can’t beat the Pentax WP series for durability and price. It’s made for the fisherman.

You don’t even have to do the shuffle to get those fish around you. I have stood for an hour, not moved, and watched 25/30 fish around my wading boots. Its a very healthy fishery. One of the saving graces on Taneycomo is the 12 to 20 inch slot limit. As to trolling…I can’t count the number of times that I have moved to a spot upstream, kept the fly in the water, and get hits…especially on a streamer…
