Nice Hopper Doc!

Too bad I didn’t have a few in Canada. We managed on what we had though, Jeff.

Three features I especially appreciate about your version are the hi visibility cdc puff, the rubber legs and the nice big feather legs. We found that anything with rubber legs was instantly more appealing to the cutts. Foam doesn’t automatically float hi and dry, so that orange puff will help so much. Also, with white foam and glare on the water the contrast is excellent. Finally, those feather legs should be much easier to work with than pheasant tail fibers. I’m looking forward to tying up a few for next summer.

ditto. nice lookin’ bug.

Gotta tye up some of’em for sure! Might just be what we are looking for in a “pond bobber” now, while the hoppers abound.

Got a question for you Dr. Fish. Do you think the striped legs are better than the plain rubber legs?

Dr. Fish will be in Denver for the big show as we will too - everyone who hasn’t already left is busy packing up (well, I haven’t started yet…)

Sitting here in the wonderful Detroit airport (the real nice Northwest one) waiting on my flight to Denver

Thanks for the compliments on the Hopper. After much experimentation I finally got what I wanted out of this patterns which is of course

  1. Fish wanting to eat it
  2. Great floatability
  3. Great visibility
  4. And while it is not a real quick tie, it’s easy to tie and holds up well.

As far as the question about solid colored or striped rubber legs makes a difference . . . I have tied with both and personally I think the striped legs fish a bit better but that being said, solid colors do produce as well. As we all know, we must have confidence in what we fish and I have lots of confidence in this bug

Off to catch my flight . . . sure is a shame my bags are packed with rods, reels, lines and flies and I will not be doing a stitch of fishing on this trip
Maybe next time.
