This is a real newbie question. Sometimes when I?m fishing on a hot day I really don?t want to wear my waders, but only my wading boots. However, the boot is sized to fit the neoprene sock of the waders. So I have all this extra room in my wading boot. Do I wear several layers of socks to fill in the space? Do I buy some neoprene socks? Both? Or what?
Wear one pair of regular socks underneath a big pair of wool socks. That will give you bulk, plus the thick wool will keep sand and grit off your feet.
This time of year you can go up to the local high school and ask the maintenance staff to save you a few pair of athletic shoes. Just guessing but they will have about 1 pair per every 20 students. 100 students equals 5 pairs. They work great when you want to wet wade.
I get almost the identical fit as I do with waders on and the neoprene gravel guards help too. When the day’s fishing is done I just put on dry socks and my street shoes for the drive home. If I wade really deep I may change pants/shirt, etc.
