aka fat lipped mullet, - its a weed eating beast, that will spool you if not careful - Oh and skitterish…

So far the consensus among exerts are a chartreuse marabou contraption known as “the green avenger” and a fly imitating a piece of bread - any further suggestions - here is a link to a picture:

Any ideas greatly appreciated…

It’ll be really hard to catch one on some weed ;). Maybe put some type of scent on them. You might also want to use flies with unusual colors, or some flash. I haven’t caught one yet, but they might have similar feeding habits as carp. I would try to catch them using a shrimp imitation or some type of sinking fly. I can see that the mouth is somewhat located downwards. Hope you catch one.

If and when, I’ll sure post it - and pics - it’s a relatively new idea to go for them with the fly rod - basically the last 2 years - normally they’re caught by chumming with bread pieces, then impaling some bread on a treble hook, but now it seems, that flyfishers are beginning to have some succes…who would’ve thunk - flats fishing on the same latitude as Labrador!

Seems it took a #12 or #14 gold hook dubbed with white &/or cream colored antron yarn & picked out to catch a few saltwater ones years ago. Had to chum them up with bread pieces, so the antron should be the same color as the chum .
