Make sure your friend that builds rods shows you each step so you got an idea of how its done. Its not hard but seeing is always better than reading. And ask questions. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to build my first rod in a class where the instructor made sure we got the idea before doing a step.

After talking with him today I knew I could do it.
Also, I live next door to tool shop owned by another good friend. I can get my rod building tools made for free!
Just hope that old rotisserie (?) motor still works?!

Jack, a simple V-notch fixture is helpful to hold the blanks as you wrap the guides. You don’t need much more that this fixture and a couple of V-blocks to hold the rod as you pply the finish.
The old technique of running the thread through a heavy book is usually tedious and uneven.
