Just received it - and it’s outstanding.
If you are headed for Montana it has everything you need. Look for Fly Fisher’s Bible MONTANA by Greg Thomas, published by Frank Amato.
We’ll do a full review with excerpts soon, but it is packed with real information.

LF…if you have read it…does this book primarily cover rivers or does it also include alpine lakes as well? I would be interested in finding some new spots in the “hills”. I would be interested in picking this book up if it does. Ahh well I guess I can always wait for the review on this site to get a bit more info as well hehehe.
It’s true, there are a lot of books on fishing in Montana. Each seem to have their own slant. This seems a bit better than most. Mark, I will bring it to the FI.
The book is basically the same as Greg’s last one. Literally. There are whole paragraphs that are the same. For the Yellowstone (on which I guide), there are so many mistakes that it’s not even funny. Official boat ramps not noted, imaginary ones invented, trails (in YNP) omitted, etc.
As far as I’m concerned, having read tons of his hot-spot articles that are usually wildly inaccurate as well as about fisheries that should not have spotlights shown on them as well as both his MT books, Greg Thomas is a hack and ought to put his pen down for good.
I picked up that book and found the same old boring introduction to Montana waters that I’ve read so many times before. If you already know how to fish, and can read a map, I recommend John Holt’s Guides to Montana fishing. Those are indespensable resources. They cover every single piece of water with emphasis on everything that’s really worth fishing- Lakes, Rivers, tiny trickles, you name it, if it’s got trout, it’s in that book. Holt doesn’t kiss and tell like Thomas, I like that about him. I guess if you’ve never been to Montana and never read a book about it, that might be a good primer.
Glad to see a few other people share my opinion of Greg Thomas’ articles and books - wildly inaccurate and writing about places that should not be written about.
