New here so I thought I would post a fishing report

My name is Sasha I am 35 and I live in Idaho. I just signed up on this forum so I thought I would post a fishing report to kick things off.

The day started off kind of cool after the overnight thunderstorms. It was still dark when I got into my car and headed off toward a river that I had not fished in a while. Even though it was dark a distant thunderstorm kept me occupied on my drive.

When I got to the river I got out of the car. It was nice and cool with the smell of a recent rain storm in the air. I began to gear up and made my way down to the river. When I got to the water it looked just like it did the last time I was here.

I entered the water and began to cast. It did not take long until I saw my indicator move, I set the hook. I instantly knew that this fish had some nice shoulders. This was verified a short time later when he treated me to some nice aerial displays as I fought him. After fighting this fish for a little bit I got him in close and was amazed. This was the biggest bow I have ever seen on this river. I quickly landed him took some pics and sent him on his way.

I went back to fishing; it was not long after I caught another fish. I kind of laughed when I landed him because this is about the smallest fish I have ever caught here. I quickly released him back to the river so he can hopefully grow a bit.

Over the course of the next few hours I caught quite a few fish. Although none of the fish the rest of the day compared to that first bow they were still quite fun. Unfortunately as I was switching out a fly I pulled a bonehead maneuver. I wasn’t watching where my rod was and I ended up snapping the tip (thank god for warranties). I fished the other rod I brought for a bit catching some more fish. After a while I decided that I had enough fun for the day so I packed up and headed home.

I hope you enjoyed this report.

Welcome from Rigby Idaho! Excellent post. If you don’t mind me asking, what part of Idaho are you from, and what river is this? Again, Welcome! I hope you enjoy yourself here.

Thanks for the welcome!

Rigby eh? My wife and I have friends that live there. As for me, I live in the Boise area. I do make it over to that side of the state quite often as there are a ton of creeks that I like to fish over there. I still am in the “crazy” stage of life where I will leave here at 0330 drive over there fish then leave at around 1700 and make it home around 2200 or so. For the question about what river that is I will just say PM sent  Since you live over there these shots are probably familiar.

Sasha

Thanks for keeping the river to yourself. It gets enough pressure already! That is an amazing rainbow for sure… Especially for there.

… from Rigby, Idaho. And a warm welcome to the FAOL Bulletin Board.

Much enjoyed your pics of that river and those fishies in the SW part of the state. Lot different look to it than what we are usually fishing over here in SE Idaho. But from your comments, probably a lot of the pics we post ( if you have seen them here on the Fishing Reports Forum ) look very familiar to you.

Since I’ll be moving soon to Western MT, I’ll be looking for reminders of what it can be like over in this part of Idaho. So, please, when you fish over here, bring the camera, take some pics, and post reports on your outings. Don’t worry about putting names with places - not too many secrets over here - but I’ll likely have an idea where you were whether you do or not.

John

Thanks for the welcome guys!

@ TB: Yea I am not much into posting the real names of any place I fish (even the known spots). I guess it is because back home (CA) I have seen firsthand what happens to rivers that are “hotspotted”.

There was this little creek I used to love to hit. It was very close to town; well it was “hotspotted”. Needless to say last year when I went back to CA I decided to go on a quick fishing trip there. What I saw when I got there disgusted me. Trash all over the place, worm and powerbait jars and empty beer cans in the C&R section. Hell I even found an old boogie board.

Needless to say the place was trashed, and the fishing sucked. On my way out I saw a group of spin guys pushing a frickin grocery cart with a cooler in it. How much do you want to bet that cart and trash did not make it out?

Nice 1st post! I love the pictures and your narrative too. Keep it up. I was supposed to be heading up that way next week but had to cancel. I guess i can at least get more envious :stuck_out_tongue: until next year. Thanks Sasha.

Rich

Greetings Sasha…From Sunny Southern Oregon…Welcome to FAOL, I’m sure you’ll like it here. Beautiful country you live in… & beautiful home waters too. Seriously large 'bow that one… What I’ve seen of Idaho is all pretty nice for an outdoors type. I have a cousin up there…Priest River… I need to get up there for a visit…
Again, welcome to the bunch! from your pics I think you’ll fit in just fine…ModocDan

Sasha, as I mentioned in my “Dad and the Kid” post, WELCOME!
Thanks for the great post and pics. That is a phenominal fish for that river, and yes, I do know which river and where, as well as how well it fishes. Can’t wait to get over there again in the next while myself.

Keep up the reports and let us know when you’re in the area and we’ll share a few of our favorite spots with you.

Kelly.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes

I know most who live in the area will know exactly what river that is. I just choose not to post real names of waters on the internet.

Yea next time I head that way I will PM you guys. There are quite a few creeks that I have not fished over there but are on my list.
