new canoe

here I am fishing for grass carp:D…this is my new Biscayne Battleship…note different seat positions…when solo I can sit as well as stand…poling is done from a milk crate when taking client

Out for grass carp ???

He’s on grass…get it?

Nice! Very nice indeed! You are going to have a blast with that canoe. I am happy for you!

Correct me if I am wrong but is not that tunnel hull designed for a small jet drive outboard? That would be a sweet shallow water power boat.

Do they make jet outboards for boats that small? I really need one if “they” do?

You’ve got better balance than I ever did if you can pole a canoe whilst standing on the seat.

That looks awesome, Cordell!

yes they make small outboards just for them…rated up to 4hp…my buddy has one just like mine and he uses the motor and it works really killer…I dont use the seat to stand on but just to sit…I use it for the client to sit on and I usually will jump up on the canoe seat itself or a milk crate behind the seat…I can do this solo as well but I dont like to be that far away from my rod if fishing myself so I stand on the bottom of the canoe

4 hp jet drive or prop?

prop…I will say a trolling motor is even better…I will remain old school and use a pushpole

What’s the weight of the canoe?

my new canoe is 85lbs…the old one is 65lbs

Hey- how is it poling by yourself? Or do you just paddle when you are solo?

can you describe what you do when you transition from pole to rod?

poling by myself is how I do it…I dont even take a paddle…if the water is too deep I stand and windmill paddle with the pushpole…the pushpole is 14ft

when I have clients I will stand on the back seat to be up high and out of the way but I can do it solo as well but tend to stand about middle and even towards the front when facing the wind

when I spot a fish I move in for the shot and when I am about 5 seconds from the spot or fish I will put the pushpole down with the cleat under the front seat and the pole will lay across the crossbar…in the same motion I come up with the rod in hand and line already stripped out…from there I throw the fly to my left and fire the rod straight up over my right shoulder…this is loading the rod over my head instead of false casting and then direct my shot with the downstroke…this is shooting the cast and no false cast…there is no time to false cast plus it scares the fish…total time it takes me is 3 seconds from spotting the fish to actual cast

skillz…
