new camera test

Now you can see why I’m dissatisfied with my flies. If you really want to see every flaw in a fly grab one out of your box, take a high resolution photo and put it on a fifty inch T.V. screen. ]http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q269/crockeryflytyer/IMGP0045.jpg[/IMG]g] [/img]

trying again

 Looks Delicious.

Not that my tying is any gage of how a fly should look, but from what I see here it meets my criteria:

  1. When greased up it will ride high in the water.
  2. It looks BUGGY!

If you’re not satisfied with this fly, tie a dozen in any size, PM me and I’ll give you my address so you can ship them to me. I’ll make very good use of them and post the pictures afterwards.

Dear rainbowchaser,

Next time lick your fingers before you twist the muskrat onto the thread and it will give you a tighter body, if you want one. Otherwise that fly looks pretty dang good to me and it will look even better to the fish I’ll bet.

Best Wishes,
Avalon

Hi there,

I just got a new digital camera, an Olympus FE180. I want to take some pics of flies, what did you use for a background and lighting? Your fly looks really great in the picture. I am still trying to figure my camera out, have only taken about 30 good pictures and they were outdoors. The indoor ones I need to play with lighting ALOT more.

Looking for some pointers,

Dwight

Looks good to me too. You can either let it ride high or trim the hackle down a bit. That’s why I leave mine a little long. Gives you more options with the fly. Great fly and it will catch fish.

thank you to everyone for your kind words about he fly. I just pulled one out of the box for a camera test so it wasn’t particularly good. D Benner, does your camera have a macro mode? That’s what I used with just a piece of paper for a background but set far enough back to be out of focus. I was too lazy to set up any lighting for what was intended as a test of the system of posting pictures rather than something I wanted to keep so I used the camera’s flash but set at the soft level. In addition to Al Campbell’s articles here I read the photography section at http://www.globalflyfisher.com before trying to take pictures of flies

I think that’s a good looking fly . That Adams will catch fish on the water that I fish any day.

                        Nice job

Ps I like the no barb.

Jim;
It looks better than any of mine!!
I’m still struggling with the macro thing! That is a nice clear picture

Looks dandy Jim! Nice photo!

I couldn’t agree more about how the camera makes even the smallest errors seem BIG!

Your fly looks terrific. And that’s a great photo. Whatever you did, you made it work.

Would you mind sharing the camera make/model?

Thanks again everyone. Bugsy, it’s the new optio w20 waterproof camera from Pentax. If your in the market for one let me know and I’ll send you a P.M. with the results of my hour and a half of research for the best price from an authorized dealer.

Rainbowchaser - that’s an awsome pic. I just bought a wp20 too, but have not had any success taking fly pics on macro… I can’t focus it right. I have had some success on manual set at 1cm and just shooting blind… but I dunno how you did that good on macro…

Chris

I am going to make one of these so I can balance out the lighting a little better, the light in my basement is bad. This combined with the tips here should make my flies come out better.

Why not use the method on here by Paul? Better and FREE!

Jim,
Nice fly! Great picture! I got my Pentax WE20 from Cameta Camera…they are an authorized dealer, no gray market stuff & great package prices. Where’d you get yours?
Mike

Gringo,
To focus in on an object in the Macro mode, place the camera at whatever distance you wish to photograph from and push the shutter button HALF WAY down. You will see the camera focusing itself and display a green square when object is in focus. Now fully depress the shutter to take picture.

Mark

I am all up for free, I thought I was doing pretty good to use the idea in the link by gathering up the material to do it for a buck at the Dollar store, now just have to assemble.

Dwight

MArco - even fdoing that I cannot get it focus at something as tiny as a fly… ok for a flower or something like that, but not a bug size as far as I can work out.
