I was given permission to access one of my favorite ponds from a new point. This one does not have a steep hill to pull the canoe up. I can drive to about 200 feet from the pond.
I decided the first time I would walk in this way and get the lay of the land. Found a couple of places where they put salt in metal rings. Good places to not hit with the truck. They are in my me memory now. They are the only things that I would have to watch for.
Got to the pond and hiked around. Going cross the dam I noticed two small tree limbs over the drain pipe. Left my stuff at the top of the dam and went down and removed those. A benefit was that a lot of algae also went out of the pond. It was piled up against the limbs and when they were out of the way the algae went and pulled a lot more that it was attached to.
The water is still muddy. A white fly disappears about 6 inches down in the water.
Tossed a top water out to see if the fish would be interested. Tie a Gilly on the other rod and started casting. Had a lot of fish hit the filly and then dive into the weeds. Trying to pull them out meant they got off.
I would land a fish once in a white. Guess this is why they call lit fishing and not catching. Kept at it trying to figure out what to do to land the fish. Was not very successful.
Finally ended up near the drain pipe. The algae in this area was greatly decreased. Made some cast and got a few fish. Most of what I was catching was bass from 8 to 10 inches long very near the dropoff that is off the dam.
In catching some of these I was bring some algae in and that went down the drain pipe. After landing about 20 0f these I decided to head home.
Had some fish to eat ad a few to share, but had great fun.
