Nelson's Bridal Path Emerger SBS

An interesting design from Brian Nelson. Original was tied with calf body hair wings; in this size that won’t work for me. Not sold on this hackling method; may change things up a bit. Tied here as a PMD; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 125 #16
thread - Danville 6/0 pale yellow
tail - Congo Hair brown
rib - x-small wire copper
abdomen - pheasant tail
thorax - deer hair yellow
wing - Congo Hair pale yellow
hackle - ginger

Part 1

mash barb, start thread; make a dubbing loop

clean a clump of deer hair; trim tips an insert in clip

insert in loop, spin

wrap thorax; trim, as needed

tie in a hank of CH behind thorax; divide, post, take a few wraps at the base to set angle forward

tie in shuck and wire; fold shuck, wrap to bend, trim shuck ( shank length)

Part 2

tie in pheasant tail; wrap to thorax, tie off/ trim

counterwrap rib; helicopter end, cover with thread

tie in hackle at rear top of thorax

wrap hackle under shank at front of thorax

take a few more wraps of hackle, tie off/ trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trim wing

Bridal Path MK II

First try; swapped the deer hair for foam and replaced the halo-effect hackle with a para loop, turning it into a foam-brested Quigley Film Critic. Not sure I like the wing position; may move it mid-thorax.

thorax - 1mm foam yellow
wing - Congo Hair baitfish tan
hackle - ginger

Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 2/3 mark, tie in CH and wire; fold and wrap back to bend

tie in PT, wrap to 2/3 mark, tie off/trim

counterwrap rib, tie off/trim; trim shuck

tie in loop and hackle

tie in foam strip

Part 2

tie in wing

dub up the ramp to base of thorax

hook loop onto the gallows

wrap hackle up the loop ( thorax width)

and back to the base; tie off/trim

pull foam forward underneath; tie off/trim

stroke hackle fibers back, split the wing and pull hackle thru the gap; tie off/trim

Part 3

half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim wing
