I guess it’s natural for young people to look on old people as old fashioned. There can’t REALLY be any benefits to getting older!
Buy all the fishing equipment you want. What you need, you can’t learn in school or buy at any price!
WISDOM is knowing what is necessary to carry out the task. Fish don’t care if you have all the fancy stuff. Flyfishing is like life, because if you LEARN from your mistakes, then you will get wiser.

When I got to the fish-in In Idaho last week I was treated at length to the theory that because I fish from an anchored boat and use sinking lines it seems that I am not a true flyfisher. (I don’t use indicators ) True flyfishers it was pointed out eschew these unsportsmanlike methods. The dry fly and the dry fly only is what elite nimrods use. After all didn’t we come for the huge caddis hatch that was supposed to be in progress? It was explained at length that I should change my dastardly ways and repent. Well I gave it a shot. After a day of trying this unfamiliar method flinging dry after dry pattern after pattern at the water and getting royally skunked. I reverted back to my evil ways, Yes dear friends I backslid all the way down. I turned over a few rocks, scouted the shores observing the buggy underlife and promptly put on a sinking tip and horrors of horrors a pheasant tail nymph! Immediate success! Guess I am out of the club forever doomed for eternity to a lesser station on the piscatorial ladder. By now you will have guessed that I just do not buy into the idea that just because everyone doesn’t ascribe to someone elses exact method of fishing doesn’t make them any less a flyfisher.
Your naughty!

Gnubee, when ya boil it all down it really dont matter. Dry, wet, streamer, just"getter done"
It’s early, I worked late, I have not had even one sip of coffee yet! But, you did not hear any of that from me. I might ‘tease’ a bit on the subject, but how you fish is up to you. You weren’t the only one using wet stuff either. Sorry it happened, it’s a first at any FI in ten years. I appologie to you.
JC No need to apologise. My take on it was that the Person was just very passionate about his dry fly and was trying to get me to believe in it too . He wasn’t trying to annoy me, rather he was trying to convert me. He and I became good friends at the fish-in. I had to laugh because when the caddis didn’t show up in numbers he admitted that He finally put on a wet so he could break his drought. hahahaha  Revenge is sweet.
So, Mr Travis believes that real flyfishers don’t use fish finders? I trust that he never uses polarized sunglasses when he is on the water.
Sorry KOA, you’re spinning it. Not the same thing.
At the risk of presuming to edit such an accomplished author, Neil should have post scripted his treatise with " the persecution rests"
