need new unique patterns

i need some new flies to tie for summer. mainly for LMB and gills. any suggestions

Not much “new” here but these work for us while chasing LM’s on the surface. We are working up a “how to” sheet on the “simple frog” for a class we are doing. A before and after the fish get to’em shot.

do you ever get up to Shasta Lake

This looks interesting.
Spider Grub

Shasta, yes, about once a year in the early spring. We usually toss minnow or shad immi’s for spots. Usually sub-surface then.:frowning:

Try the Cat’s Whisker. Fairly easy tie and quite a productive pattern.

I noticed a fly recentlyat Bass Pro and Cabelas called the Bass Slider. Kind of looks like a Jigand Pig.

This is a Dry Fly called, “Cat Puke” http://www.rainysflies.com/pages/tb_stonefly.html

Get the latest issue of Fly Tyer magazine if you havn’t already…Some great looking Jig flies in there! Also, Many old style classic streamers work great…Bass havn’t seen them for a while so when you use them its almost like showing them something new…Ha ha

Designed for Kelp Bass (Calico Bass), expected to be effective for largemouth

Refer to Feather-Craft 2007 cat. page 45 and the Puglisi"freshwater baitfish pattern.
I tye these on 8,6,4,Owner mosquitoe hooks for bluegills.I usually use EP fibers but also get
very interesting results with Craft Fur.Also start to tye a clouser but instead of tying the streamer
in the usual manner tye the hair in as bunches alon the hook shank as you would tye a typical
Puglisi fly.

Robin: How does the Cat’s Whisker differ from Crappie Candy? They look incredibly similar. JGW

John,

The Cat’s Whisker is kind of a marabou CC. David Train tied it originally as a stillwater “lure”. Read this for a little background.

ive got a new dahlburg variant that i came up with. i wanted a fly that would still dive but also have that jointed action of the jointed rapalas for regular fishing. and i just wanted to basically give it as much action as possible. so in this fly i threw in a dahlburg diving head, a jointed body segment, and a rabbit strip tail. im just calling it “The Jointed Dahlburg Diver” so here it is.

no word yet on how it does, but come spring im gonna try it out. also, to give it the jointed body segment i just tied down some mono to the hook before starting the front section, and tied it to the eye of the hook of the back section

i just got my digital camera working so heres a pic of another of my deerhair creations. its supposed to imitate a dying fish. ive seen many imitations for just a fish floating on its side but not one that will do that and do the occasional dive of a dying fish. so heres mine

Awesome thread guys. I got a lot of great ideas. I can’t wait to start tying again.

Respectfully,
Sean

How about something like this, a variation of Tony’s Froggie. Large one is going in my bass box in several different colors. I’ll do some medium to small ones for a my panfish box and some size 16 to 24 for my trout box. Finally found a use for those cylinder damsel fly bodies lying around my desk.

Those look nasty! What do you tie with them…hairballs?

If you have a good shad and bluegill population where you fish, try one of these:

Floating Head Generic Sunfish

Silicone Head Dallas Cowboy Shad

It looks like a fly-rod version of an ArkieJig. Cool!
