I acquired a boat-load of tying materials at a garage sale this weekend. In the tackle box was about 2 dozen boxes of Mustad hooks. One box was full of Streamer hooks.
Here’s what it is:
I have searched the Mustad “database” for the number of the hook with no results found. I have been unsuccessful tracking down the characteristics of this particular hook.
If you can edit the title to include the word Mustad, perhaps it will catch Dr Fish eyes and he’ll answer your question. Dr Fish real name is Jeff Pierce who is the No. American Sales Manager for O. Mustad & Son (USA) Inc.
I am almost certain that hook was designed for bass bugs and it is lighter than it looks in the photo. I would hesitate to use them for steelhead or salmon flies because of that.
Big flies, especially 3XL give up tremendous leverage to the fish when running at certain angles. That is a good bugger hook for calm water and smaller fish, IMO&E. We tie them up to #2, 3XL.
