Need help locating dubbing

While searching the internet one day for unique fly tying material I came across some dubbing that contained micro small rubber in it that would make some great looking flies (in my opinion). Now I cannot locate that article. The dubbing, once applied with a dubbing loop, would have many small strands of rubber sticking out on it from all sides. If anyone knows what I am looking for, I would really appreciate it if you could steer me in the right direction.

Thanks for any help,

Warren,
I don’t know about the article, but the material is called, “Swisher’s Generation X” put out by the Montana Fly company. I’m pretty sure I picked it up locally, and would certainly go in search if you’d like. <I know … it’d be terrible to have to go to the fly store!!!> And yes, it does make some really fun, effective flies!

Warren, I believe it is /was offered by Orvis…maybe made by the Montana Fly Co. I have some but unfortunately it’s at another local and I’ve right now have a block on it’s name. I’ve got info in my files on it and will get back to you if noone else does. Here’s a link to the dubbing brush made with it.

Thanks!!!

That is what I was looking for and now I will start the search for a vendor that will sell the Generation X products especially the Peacock Plus w/micro legs!

Thank you both very much…

Warren , you might try under the name “Tentacles”…that’s what Orvis called them.

Also you might find this interesting.

Steve Korbay at Fly Tying Specialites carries Swisher’s Gen X in a few colors (but not peacock, unfortunately): http://www.flytyingspecialties.com/product_info.php?cPath=59&products_id=211.

Give him a call if all else fails.

Go to www.dougswisher.com. He has 4 types of dubbing with micro legs.

  1. Peacock PLUS - matches peacock in various colors with black micro legs, while the hot colors have matching color legs.
  2. Peacock PLUS Big Daddy - matches peacock in various colors with black micro legs AND longer larger legs for big nymphs, Woolly Buggers (body), Saltwater Flies, Bass etc. Hot colors match the color legs.
  3. Generation X - rabbit dubbing with black micro legs.
  4. Rub-A-Dub dubbing - rabbit dubbing with slightly larger legs in the dubbing.
He also has the various colors of micro legs pre-cut ready to add to any dubbing as well as the Big Daddy legs in long hanks and the legs for Rub-A-Dub.

I’ve ordered some dubbing from the flytiersdungeon that had black rubber in it. I use it for buggers and it’s killer.

Good luck Warren.

This one bothers me:confused:

What bothers you about my post?

Me thinks… if it were in the “For Sale” threads it would be banned.

Me thinks…I am answering a specific question about a product that is NOT called Tentacles ( the product used in the dubbings is not Tentacles) and the 2 peacock dubbings are NOT a Montana Fly Company product. In fact, they most likely have never seen these dubbings. These dubbings are made exclusively for Doug Swisher and it’s NOT the Montana Fly Company doing it. I never said I am selling it or buy it from me or openly “advertising” it. I am answering a simple question with the plain facts. I guess giving the true facts and information is advertising…it’s sad, when I try to give information on a product that I know about, that I get accused of blatant advertising. Sad…very sad. I would never post a comment like that, even if it were true, I would never do it. Someone wanted info. and I had it. Know before you post, not post before you know.

Mr. Mad…I will take you at your word.
I apologize.
Thank you for the information:cool:.

Point of order, Mr. Mad Scientist. You are advertising your business in you signature, so you can hardly claim that your posts are merely informative. You can hardly blame duckersterman for coming to the obvious conclusion.

It was a statement that need not be made at all…I would never have done it. If you think putting a web site below as part of a signature, then, make it a rule…if ANYONE uses a signature to promote ANY web site, maybe the signature patrol can blast them…publicly.

Relax…it’s just fishing and I was trying to help, nothing more. I JUST answered a question. There are some constant posters that do it and you don’t blast them or make a statement concerning their signatures. I personally don’t care if people do it. It’s interesting to see other web sites. Get over it…no wonder many people I know don’t dare post on forums. This is why!

Gosh what a waste of time.

I don’t understand why Ducksterman came down on Mad Scientist so hard. He, MS, was simply pointing the original poster in the direction of the material being asked about. It wasn’t even MS’s website. My advise to all, lighten up a little. Life’s too short to be chapped all the time.
